Only six weeks left until our first half marathon!!!! While we are starting to get excited, this also means the training is getting much more intense and that 21km is getting a whole lot closer. Motivation has been the key to staying on track with our programs and enjoying the preparation leading up to the run! To be completely honest, this race prep has been a struggle for both of us and achieving our goals will be a huge accomplishment. That being said, we can definitely feel the programs working their magic and the distance getting a little bit easier!
♥ Drake vs You and Me Flume – Best I Ever Had
We want to share our personal motivation tips with you, which will hopefully help you with your running journey!
1. Change up the scenery
Having a few running circuits has helped tremendously with sticking to the program. It’s easier to go for a run 3-4x a week knowing you won’t see the exact same thing each run.
2. Set your running time
Don’t be flexible with it, or it may not happen. The running program specifies the running days and distances, set your own time to run on those days as you would with any other important responsibility. We have found that being structured helps with procrastination, especially on those days you may not feel like going for a run.
3. Stay positive
Ups and downs happen. Some runs may not be your best and that’s okay. Keep your mind positive and remember that your running program and race day is meant to be fun! Enjoy the process and be proud of yourself for getting out of your comfort zone!
4. Find a good reason to run
Run when you are stressed, run when you are happy, run when you are celebrating something and run when you have had a hard day. Run, run, run and find the joy in doing it!
5. Earn the body you have always wanted
Running is a great way to stay in shape and also to get rid of that naughty meal that you just had. Discipline is necessary to fit in running programs, and you will need to eat healthier meals that will give you the energy necessary to maintain a good pace and finish your running goal of the day. A well-balanced meal pre and post run will help you recover, and perform better.
6. Remember why you started
Keep yourself motivated by reminding yourself why you decided to take on this challenge. Whether you have decided to run a half marathon to stay fit, compete with yourself or build better endurance, it is important to remind yourself of your personal goals and try to accomplish them every day at the gym, with your running program, and with your food selection.
