Hi beautiful people! For those who are married I only have to say one thing; yes, the wedding preparations are incredible, the day of the wedding goes in a heartbeat BUT let’s be honest, what every single, engaged couple looks forward to the most is the HONEYMOON, at least we did! These post is for all of you who are planning to get married, are planning a honeymoon, or are looking for an idea of a romantic getaway with your better half!
After visiting more than 40 countries, I consider myself well-traveled, and I wanted somewhere special for our honeymoon where, OK, we love each other, but we didn’t want to be the typical couple lying on the beach, seeing the hours pass by and getting a crazy tan that would give us nothing other than premature wrinkles and quite possibly cancer. Instead, we wanted somewhere exotic, where we could be pampered, and stay in luxurious places. Most of all, we wanted to be active, have fun, have romantic surprises prepared for us and have a trip of a lifetime. We ended up having the most EPIC Honeymoon, like no joke, it was Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! The pictures speak for themselves.

After a long (16 hour), but cuddly flight from Cancun to Johannesburg we arrived and were greeted with champagne and strawberries, who doesn’t like to be pampered? One of the best recommendations I can give you is to stay close to Nelson Mandela Square and have dinner at Pappas. Don’t forget to try the octopus appetizer and samosas. If you stay at the Michelangelo Hotel like we did, trust me, even if you are NOT a morning person, set your alarm and DON’T miss breakfast. It’s spectacular. You are welcome.
Safari time! Honest to god one of the most incredible experiences I have ever had, staying at Dulini Lodge was beyond all of our expectations, with multiple surprise dinners, our private plunge pool, our personal butler, exquisite African cuisine, with the most lovely staff you will ever have. We had professional rangers and trackers, and 2 game-drives per day in our very own Land Rover, everything in a super romantic ambiance! We also got to see the big 5 (lions, elephants, rhinos, buffalo and leopard), baby elephants, and baby everything, it was incredible!
Cape Town is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever visited. We stayed at the Cape Grace hotel, which was located in the international yacht marina. It was one of our favorite hotels of our whole honeymoon. We had breakfast every day in our suite; we had surprises everyday that included sparkling wine, homemade chocolates, massages and we had a super romantic dinner in Signal Restaurant. The service at the hotel, honestly, if I could I would give it ten stars. Cape Town was full of adventure; we went whale watching and to see great white sharks, visited cute Jackass penguins, no joke, that’s their name, at Boulders Beach. We visited the Atlantic Coast towns of Clifton and Campus Bay and Mariners Wharf at Hout Bay and took romantic pictures at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens! Of course, you can’t miss going to Table Mountain on a clear day and make sure to take something to cover yourself. We learned this lesson the hard way! BRRR!
This was the cherry on top of our trip. We stayed at Auberge Clermont, located in the heart of the Cape wine-lands. We rented a car for logistic purposes, which I highly encourage you to do, so that you can have multiple stops along the way for your tourist shot. Unfortunately, we just stayed a night; I would advise you to stay as many nights as possible. If you are a foodie like me, you will have a blast, if you are a wine drinker, even better. Franschhoek has a laid-back ambiance with luxury, peaceful and great vibes and of course views of “melting” clouds rolling into the Cape wine-lands. I am an eternal romantic.

We planned our honeymoon through AfricaTravel. They are amazing at what they do, and we had the pleasure of having Felicity Balcomb as our honeymoon planner and advisor. I can’t recommend them and this trip highly enough. We will come back to you one day, South Africa.
Until next time! x
