As an island lover/explorer living in the Caribbean, I am always looking for different islands to visit in this beautiful area of the world. There’s a tiny island located in the heart of St. Vincent and the Grenadines that everyone should visit if they have the chance!! I recently did and let me tell you, this little gem, Happy Island, is as unique as it comes! A man-made island constructed out of conch shells, that’s right I said conch shells, and the only thing on this island is a bar! The owner spent years building this island into the popular beach bar destination it has become. I get happy just thinking about this place!!!
Not only are the drinks are cold, the sun hot, the vibes relaxed, but the collection of people you meet here is amazing! People travel from all over the world to stop here on their sailing trips, and it is WELL worth the visit.
You know when you visit Italy you think “I need to eat all the pizza, pasta, and gelato humanly possible, while drinking alllllllll the espresso and wine.” Well, when in the Caribbean, drinking rum punch is a MUST! When in Rome, right? SOOOO living the Caribbean island life for the past year has allowed me to try my fair share of this special punch you know, for research purposes, and I must tell you where the best one has been so far…
What I recommend? Head to Happy Island to enjoy a vibrant Caribbean sunset while sipping on a cold beverage, you will NOT be disappointed!
A word to the wise: the rum punch here is STRONG (strong rum, makes sense really)! If any patron tells you otherwise, they are clearly drinking it and can no longer be trusted. They do serve food on the island as well. I was personally there for the liquid diet, but will be sure to review the food on my NEXT visit! Cheers!
How to get there from St. Vincent and the Grenadines:
The island of St. Vincent is a transfer hub for the rest of the Grenadines. Yacht charters, ferries, and airplane charter companies can all take you to Union Island, and from there Happy Island is just a short water taxi away.
+++Barefoot Yacht Charters: an excellent charter company to plan your dream Caribbean sailing trip with! Not only could you pop into Happy Island, but you could also see the rest of the stunning Grenadines. Sailing truly is the absolute best way to see this part of the world.
+++Mustique Airways: A highly professional charter plane company based in St. Vincent. They have top-notch pilots and planes! If you’re unable to spend a few days to a week sailing, my recommendation would be to fly.
+++SVG Air:Hop on a quick flight with this company to Union Island. Bonus: it’s only a 15 min flight from St. Vincent. SVG offers a few scheduled flights per day to Union Island from St. Vincent for a great price. They offer morning, afternoon and late afternoon options for flights – take your pick!
+++Jaden Sun: The fastest of the ferries that run a service to Union Island, roughly 2 hours from St. Vincent to Union Island. This is the cheapest way to travel to the Grenadines, tickets run at around $40EC one way.
