Hi, beautiful people! As all of you may know, I love finding new restaurants and the last time I was in Barbados, I was feeling like having sushi for dinner and, just in general, I wanted to go somewhere new and nice where I could try some Asian Cuisine. I found out about this restaurant that was opened not too long ago.
It is called Umi, and its name means “ocean” in Japanese, if you ask me, really ad-hoc for the beautiful view and location this place boasts. The restaurant is located inside the Sugar Bay Barbados hotel, which by the way, is gorgeous. All the staff are really attentive and are always making sure you have everything you need! Umi feels chic and intimate, and just perfect if you are celebrating a birthday or want to plan a romantic surprise dinner for your better half.
The menu is extensive and filled with the traditional fresh raw sushi and sashimi plates to scrumptious warm dishes to choose from. I have been dreaming about going back ever since then!

Ok, ok, I know you want to see the food now, so here we go!
UMI (Sugar Bay Barbados, Hastings, Christ Church- $$$)
There are a couple of healthy picks in this restaurant, and as an appetizer I would recommend either the Seaweed salad that comes with fresh seaweed, cucumber, carrots, lettuce & tomato with ginger dressing & sesame seeds or this absolutely delicious Edamame Bazooka (steamed soya beans sautéed with chili garlic & chicken wrapped in sweet bell pepper with spicy mayo).
HEALTHY PICK! I had the Pad Thai Special with chicken that has noodles, crunchy nuts, vegetables & chili flakes served with steamed vegetables! Make sure to share since all portions are quite generous!
They also have a large selection of yummy sushi rolls, and one of the best is the Maki Mix Special because you get to try a couple of pieces from the shrimp tempura roll, volcano roll, California roll, and the salmon & cheese roll. HEALTHY TIP: If you are trying to eat healthier, make sure you order a roll that it is not fried, a great option is the California roll, and don’t forget to take it easy with the soy too!
Since we are in the most awesome month that includes wonderful events such as my birthday, and independence day in Mexico, which is celebrated today, I didn’t want to feel homesick and miss home too terribly, so I couldn’t resist trying a piece from the Mexican Sushi (I know, pretty good excuse, right?) Boy it’s hot, but it is worth a try! It has spicy salmon, tuna, chives, jalapeño, rice out topping, salmon, and avocado with spicy mayo, YUM!
